David McGonigle is the winner of the Psychology Zone, after receiving the most votes from students! He wins £500 to spend on more science engagement activities.
Here’s what he had to say about his victory:
I’m truly humbled (and quite frankly surprised!) that I’ve been voted the winner of the Psychology zone. Thank you to everyone who took part: from the mods working tirelessly behind the scenes; to my fellow scientists, from whom I learned a lot; and finally, to the most important people of all – the students and teachers.
I’ve had to step back from in-person public engagement due to an ongoing medical condition, so it’s incredibly refreshing to be able to participate in ‘I’m a Scientist’. All you need is a computer – and, of course, nimble fingers! The questions are always surprising: everything from what kind of music I like to DJ to, to insightful and novel queries about my work in neuroscience.
It may sound cliché, but I got as much out of these discussions as I hope the students did. I had to re-evaluate how I thought about some old work and justify the use of some of my experimental techniques…the format certainly keeps you on your toes!
I now have the genuine pleasure of accepting my prize money to start…my very own podcast. Another challenge, and one that I hope, once it’s up and running, I see some of you there!
Thanks again, Dave.
